During challenging times, we are called to pray. But in what manner should we pray—and where? The only answer I can offer is the one Jesus gave in Matthew 6:9–13. He instructed us to pray in this manner:
“Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth.
Give us bread for our needs from day to day.
And forgive us our offenses, as we have forgiven our offenders.
And do not let us enter into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
— Matthew 6:9–13, Holy Bible, Ancient Eastern Text
This prayer—The Lord’s Prayer—is, in itself, complete. Whether spoken in silence or voiced in public, it carries within it everything we ever need to say. It is a prayer of thanksgiving, a call for guidance, a confession, a request for strength, and a declaration of faith in God’s sovereign goodness.
It affirms:
This is not just a prayer for hard times—it is a prayer for every season of life. It steadies us when the path is uncertain and keeps us grounded when all is well. It’s a reminder that in God’s presence, we lack nothing essential, and in God’s will, we find our way.
Whether we’re standing in still waters or navigating turbulent ones—whether we whisper it in solitude or speak it aloud among others—The Lord’s Prayer invites us to stay aligned, surrendered, and strong.
When you don’t know what to say, say this.
When you can’t find the words, this is enough.
In all seasons, this prayer is complete.
